A guide to the archives of the Colleges of the University of Oxford
Balliol College is one of the three colleges which can claim to be the oldest in Oxford. The foundation date is traditionally reckoned as 1263.
Balliol's medieval and early modern manuscript books, extensive C18-20 personal and family archives, and 8 centuries of college administrative records are all housed and consulted in the Historic Collections Centre at St Cross Church, Holywell. Researchers should request appointments in advance with Anna Sander.
